Heat: Red heat warning for parts of Carinthia
After the exceptional heat at the end of June, July is also starting off extremely hot in Austria. The south of Austria is once again particularly affected. For this reason, the highest heat warning level has been declared for parts of Carinthia for Thursday 3 July 2025.
After June 2025 was already the warmest month in the series of measurements in Klagenfurt since 1813, July is also starting with heat. Highs of 35 to 38 degrees are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday in Carinthia. Temperatures in southern Styria, Burgenland, eastern Lower Austria and Vienna will also reach similar highs.
While the heat in the eastern parts of Austria has been intermittent in recent weeks, Carinthia has been in the grip of midsummer for the past two weeks. ‘In Ferlach in Rosental, the maximum temperatures have been consistently above 30 degrees since 18 June. Tomorrow, Thursday, will also be the 12th day in a row with a maximum above 30 degrees in the provincial capital,’ reports Gerhard Hohenwarter, meteorologist at GeoSphere Austria's regional office in Carinthia.
Due to the length of the heatwave and the extremely high temperatures, the highest heat warning level has been declared for parts of Carinthia for 3 July 2025.
After the peak of the heat on Thursday, the weekend will again bring some midsummer temperatures. By Monday at the latest, the heat is likely to be finally broken by a cold front moving through.
