Oil and Natural Gas Statistics 2025
GeoSphere Austria collects annual data on the previous year’s crude oil and natural gas production on behalf of the Mining Authority of the Ministry of Finance. The figures were presented on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, as part of GeoSphere Austria’s Energy Resources Division, and were supplemented by a summary of global data and presentations on the geological and technical background of company projects.
As alternative uses of geothermal energy are gaining in importance, information was provided on current deep and shallow geothermal projects in Austria, along with an overview of the (geo-)data infrastructure in Europe as part of a project run by EuroGeoSurveys.
In 2025, production of crude oil (down 2.4 per cent) and natural gas (down 8.5 per cent) in Austria declined compared to 2024.
Consequently, assuming constant annual production in Austria, domestic reserves of crude oil will last for a further 12.7 years and those of natural gas for a further 7.64 years.
Globally, crude oil production continues to rise, whilst natural gas production (natural gas and associated petroleum gas) remains at a consistently high level.
