Very sunny November 2025

Temperature compared to the recent past (climate average 1991-2020) in the lowlands 1.0 degrees below average, in the mountains around 0.5 degrees above average.

November 2025 was very sunny. ‘Averaged across the whole of Austria, there were 33 per cent more hours of sunshine than in an average November,’ says climatologist Alexander Orlik from GeoSphere Austria, ‘making it one of the 15 sunniest Novembers in recorded history.’

Differences between lowlands and mountains

The first half of November 2025 was relatively mild, while the second half was relatively cool. ‘Over the month as a whole, it was slightly warmer than the climatological average in the mountains, and November 2025 ranks 31st in the 175-year mountain measurement series,’ says climatologist Orlik. ‘In the lowlands, on the other hand, a few inversion weather conditions caused slightly cooler phases. As a result, November 2025 ranks 101st in the 259-year lowland measurement series.’

Compared to the recent past, the climate average for 1991-2020, November 2025 is 1.0 degrees below average in the lowlands, but 0.5 degrees above average in the mountains. Compared to the period 1961-1990, which was not yet so strongly influenced by global warming, November 2025 was 0.2 degrees too mild in the lowlands of Austria and 1.6 degrees too mild in the mountains.

Slightly too dry in many regions

November 2025 brought 5 percent less precipitation than an average November across Austria.

According to regional analysis, it was relatively wet in the Waldviertel, Weinviertel and parts of Burgenland (15 to 50 percent above average, up to +85 percent in the north of the Weinviertel). It was particularly dry in the Tyrolean Oberland, East Tyrol, Upper Carinthia and Lungau (around 30 to 60 per cent less precipitation than average).

The number of days with snow cover was roughly within the typical range for November at all altitudes.
