It has become an indispensable part of short-term forecasting – though it was discovered rather by chance. As well as insects, it can be used to track debris swept up by tornadoes, and even ornithologists benefit from its observations.

Now that the storm season is slowly getting underway again, we weather forecasters, too, eagerly await every new image when the need arises. And perhaps you, dear listeners, use it regularly in your weather app as well.
