State Prize for Technology 2024

Awarded the State Prize for Technology in the category ‘AI for Green’, which honors research in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that makes a significant contribution to combating climate change and protecting the environment, with the project ‘AtmoI4REN-4Cast’.

The award-winning AtmoI4REN-4Cast project aims to support the renewable energy sector with weather and electricity production forecasts, climate change predictions and impact assessments using AI methods. The solutions cover a time horizon from nowcasting to the sub-season and a spatial horizon from the regional level to individual wind turbines/solar modules. The focus is on the representation of extreme events, strong outliers in the distributions, and the impact assessment of climate change on renewable energies.
